Reynaldo
Mixed Media Painting with Neopastel
Reynaldo may have started as a gift for my niece Emma, but he accidentally became the founder of an entire cast of wonderfully weird characters.
The original painting has a permanent home with Emma, but thankfully Reynaldo's larger-than-life personality lives on through these prints.
His story began after one of those perfect days that reminds you what really matters. My daughter Amy and I spent the day doing absolutely nothing important and everything meaningful, laughing until our stomachs hurt, being ridiculous, and embracing the kind of silliness that adults are often encouraged to leave behind.
When I sat down to paint later that day, something unexpected happened. Instead of trying to create something serious or polished, I gave myself permission to stay in that playful frame of mind. Out waddled Reynaldo.
With his lopsided walk, oversized feet, wild expression, and impossible confidence, Reynaldo became a celebration of embracing your quirks. He doesn't care about fitting in. He isn't interested in being elegant. He's far too busy strutting through life exactly as he is.
In many ways, Reynaldo became the blueprint for the whimsical characters that now appear throughout my artwork. He was the first to show me that art doesn't always have to be profound to be meaningful. Sometimes it just needs to make you smile.
The vibrant colors and energetic brushwork capture the same carefree spirit that inspired his creation, making him a joyful reminder not to take life quite so seriously.
Reynaldo isn't just a goose. He's a tiny rebellion against adulthood's constant demand to be sensible.
And while the original belongs to Emma, his prints are ready to bring a little laughter, a little color, and a whole lot of personality into homes everywhere.
For anyone who believes life is better when you're willing to be a little ridiculous. 💛🪿✨
