Marcus (Prints)

from $22.50
Marcus was my very first commissioned painting, and with that came a different kind of responsibility. I wanted to create more than a portrait. I wanted to capture a presence. From the very beginning, I was fixated on the eyes. My goal was for them to lock onto the viewer, creating the feeling of being watched long after looking away.

As I worked, I spent a great deal of time experimenting with value and contrast to bring depth and intensity to the gaze. While I may not have achieved every technical detail exactly as I envisioned, I believe I captured something more important: the essence of Marcus. There is a strength and undeniable authority in him that transcends technical perfection.

Standing firmly in the water with his catch, framed by rugged mountains and a vibrant sky, Marcus commands attention. He is powerful, confident, and unapologetically wild. This painting taught me an important lesson early in my artistic journey: a successful painting is not always about getting every detail right. Sometimes it is about capturing the spirit of the subject so completely that the viewer feels its presence. Marcus is a reminder of that lesson, and a piece I will always remember as the beginning of my commission work.
