Betty (Original)

$50.00

Betty was painted from a place of pure nostalgia.

I was thinking about my early twenties - the kind of years that somehow become brighter and more romantic in your memory as time passes. My friend had this little purple Volkswagen Bug, and we would drive around with Matchbox Twenty blaring through the speakers, completely unaware that one day I would look back and realize: those were the good old days.

There's something a little Great Gatsby about nostalgia - the temptation to look backward and believe that the best part of your life already happened. And I do remember those years with so much affection. We were young, carefree, and having the time of our lives.

But Betty isn't about wanting to go back.

I can love the girl I was, the friends I had, the music we played too loud, and that purple little Bug - and still be deeply thankful that my life kept moving forward. Those days were beautiful.

But these are the good old days, too.
